Vancouver’s BETA5 has been honoured with a gold and two silver medals in the world final of the prestigious 2013 International Chocolate Awards.
Adding to their list of accolades, the boutique artisan shop was awarded gold in the category of flavoured dark ganaches for Fisherman’s Friend, a truffle made with the ubiquitous cough candy and 67% dark chocolate from São Tomé. In the same category, The Whole Cherry, an innovative cherry-pit ganache with cherry balsamic jelly, earned silver. The second silver was awarded in the category of flavoured white bars to the Black Olive Polygon Bar, which consists of candied Taggiasca olive enveloped in white chocolate.
The International Chocolate Awards recognize the highest quality chocolate in the world. Products go through a multi-level, rigorous judging process that is comprised of three stages: national competitions, semi-final rounds, and the world final. Chocolatiers from across Europe, the Americas and Canada all compete for a coveted prize.
The awards come on the heels of recent wins at the 2013 Canadian National Chocolate Awards, where BETA5 was awarded three golds for their Fisherman’s Friend, Bay Leaf milk ganache and Candied Black Olive Bar respectively, and silver for The Whole Cherry. BETA5 first entered the awards in 2012 and took home a silver medal at the International Chocolate Awards for their Imperial Stout chocolate, as well two gold awards in the Canadian competition for the Imperial Stout and Olive Oil ganache chocolates and two silvers for their Crispy Praline and Banana chocolates.
