Nelson The Seagull Serves Toasted “To Die For Banana Bread” with Mascarpone and Honey

Nelson the Seagull - undoubtedly one of the funkiest cafes in town (just read Mia Stainsby’s article here) – has added a deadly new menu item to their list of offerings: Toasted To Die For Banana with a side of mascarpone and honey.

The non-sweet Italian cream cheese is a dreamy pairing with the full-flavored sweet and salty banana bread. You can sweeten it up further, if you like, with the side of honey.

Nelson is the kind of spot you could lounge around (or work) at all day long. With couches, big wooden tables and a wide open kitchen, the owners have created a ‘happy place’ in the heart of Gastown.

Introducing: Naked ‘To Die For’ Banana Bread

Naked ‘To Die For’ Banana Bread is currently being tested at three of its seventeen vendor locations: Milano on Denman, Milano in Gastown, and Milano on 8th Ave.

The recipe is identical to the original flavor (Macadamia Nut Callebaut Milk Chocolate), minus the nuts and the chocolate. Please note that this new flavor is produced in a facility that contains nuts and may contain traces of nuts.

Hopefully those of you on the look-out for healthier options will enjoy the new Naked Banana Bread, which is sweet, salty, and extra moist as usual. Its ingredients are all-natural, its eggs are free-range, its bananas are organic, and its vanilla is pure.

French Made Baking Launches “To Die For Banana Bread” Macarons

Back in October, I received an email from Catherine Introligator of French Made Baking.

She and her husband – the pastry chef behind their bakery – had stumbled upon To Die For Banana Bread, and decided to test it out in macaron form.

They transformed the bread into a macaron filling by simply adding a bit of butter and cream.

David and I met to sample the creation, and I can honestly say, I was blown away. Of course, I am biased – but I feel confident you will love them, too.

To Die For Banana Bread Macarons are now on shelves at French Made Baking (along with regular slices of the bread) and I couldn’t be more thrilled by this partnership. Stay tuned for details of our upcoming sample session.

In the meantime, you can find Catherine and David’s fantastic French baking (macarons, croissants, canelés and lots more) at their Kingsway/Broadway bakery and at the Vancouver Farmers’ Markets (view their schedule here).

“To Die For Banana Bread” & Provence Restaurants Team Up For Mother’s Day

Provence Marinaside, one of Vancouver’s best brunch destinations, is a perfect spot for Mother’s Day celebrations. Not only do have they have an incredible menu, they’re a stone’s throw away from the seawall. You could take your mom for a walk, then hop on the aquabus for part two of your adventure at Granville Island Market.

On top of all this, Provence will be selling half loaves of To Die For Banana Bread that you can buy for your mom on the spot. You’ll also find the banana bread included in Provence’s ‘Basket of Fresh Baked Goods’ and at the front door on the sample platter.

At Provence Mediterranean Grill (their second location on West 10th), all mom’s will receive a complimentary portion of banana bread all wrapped up upon their departure.

This Saturday and Sunday, both Provence locations open for brunch at 9am – walk-ins are welcome
