BC-based Happy Planet has recently launched four new vegan Nut Smoothies. They are fresh, all-natural, soy and preservative-free and sweetened with organic cane sugar. As someone who is constantly on the look-out for new dairy-free options, it’s a thrill to see a new nut-based product hitting the shelves of so many grocery stores around town.
Happy Planet’s nuts of choice are cashews and almonds, which are rich with healthy fats. The new smoothie flavours are Vanilla Chai, Chocolate, Coffee and Salted Caramel. Enjoy them on their own, in milkshake form (pictured) or even as a special treat in coffee.
Salted Caramel is always a popular flavour, and there’s no exception when it comes to Happy Planet’s Nut Smoothie. There’s nothing not to love about the slightly salty, rich caramel flavour. For fun, try it poured over a bowl of dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
The Vanilla Chai Nut Smoothie might be my favourite. The spices are so fragrant: cinnamon, cardamom, clove, ginger, even a little black pepper. Heated up, this delicious beverage, is — flavour-wise — a notch above your afternoon tea.
The Coffee Nut Smoothie is made with cold-brewed coffee and contains 64mg of caffeine per serving (so, slightly less than a shot of espresso). It’s a perfect little pick-me-up any time of day.
Lastly, Happy Planet’s Chocolate Nut Smoothie, which is definitely a contender for first place. Dutch cocoa is used to create a rich chocolatey flavour that beats conventional chocolate milk every day of the week.
To create a healthy milkshake (like I did in the above picture), just blend about a cup of Happy Planet Nut Smoothie with a handful of ice and frozen banana chunks.
