There are lots of exciting new wineries to tell you about in the Oliver Osoyoos wine region. Here are two of my favourites.
Montakarn Estate Winery is named after its co-owner, Montakarn Misson, who moved here from Thailand after falling in love with her British Columbian husband Gary Misson. They bought the property with zero knowledge about wine-making, but driven by passion, they’re learned how and are now producing impressive 100% homegrown varietals. Try the Tippy Toe, a Chardonnary, Sauvignon Blanc Viognier blend named after a foal born on their property.
Another winery to keep on your radar is soon to open Bartier Bros., a passion project from 30 year wine industry veterans and brothers Michael and Don Bartier. They’re focused on producing wines that taste like where they came from — it’s all about the calcium carbonate, they say. Not only do these guys handle all areas of the wine-making themselves, they’re also manning the construction project. Expect their tasting room to open this July.
