Justin Bieber was not a confirmed guest of the Osoyoos Celebrity Wine Festival. Nonetheless, I was this excited (see left) to partake in an exclusive Okanagan weekend (June 10 – 13) boasting 8 celebrity chefs, 17 wineries, and 10 celebrity guests.
The trip began last Friday morning. Fashion reporter Christie Lohr and I hit the road in a car oh-so suitable for the A-list weekend: a 2010 MINI Cooper Camden 50 (also pictured at left), generously provided by MINI Yaletown.
We savored the comfortable journey only to arrive at the brand new Watermark Beach Resort five hours later with over half a tank of gas remaining. Unbelievable. And the weekend was just beginning…
Friday night: VIP Reception & Beach Party at Walnut Beach
Upon arrival to the shindig attended by Jason Priestley, Steven Page, and Bruce Greenwood, I discarded my purse to ensure maximum dexterity for appy sampling. Here are my two favorite concoctions, made by Justin Paakkunainen, head chef of Walnut Beach Resort.
Walnut Bruschetta with walnut butter – a sweet and nutty version of the Italian classic:
Cinnamon-Smoked Scallops on honey baguette with spicy micr0-green salad…for which I’d move mountains. The seafood medallions were cured with an ice smoker architected by Justin, himself.
Black Hills’ Sauvignon/Semillon blend, ‘Alibi‘, is described as ‘fun and whimsical’ (the predominant characteristic I seek in a wine) and it paired beautifully with the canapes:
As the night carried on, Alibi’s label became prophetic. I never ended up moving mountains for the honeyed canapes, but I did bend over backwards.
A few snapshots from the evening…
Thanks to Destination Osoyoos, Black Hills Estate Winery, e=mc2 Event Management, Walnut Beach Resort, Spirit Ridge Resort, and Watermark Beach Resort for throwing a world class wine festival that I was honored to be a part of.

Ciao for now.
