“Prohibition” Now Open at Rosewood Hotel Georgia

Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Vancouver’s preeminent luxury hotel, is delighted to announce the opening of its highly-anticipated underground vaulted cocktail bar, Prohibition. A throwback to the age of decadence, glamour and prosperity, the 3,000-square-foot bar invites guests to travel back in time to the roaring twenties with bespoke cocktails, daily live musical entertainment and sleek interiors that create an intimate, sophisticated ambiance reminiscent of the era’s speakeasies.

“In its heyday, the Chameleon at Hotel Georgia was the go-to gathering place for Hollywood royalty, visiting dignitaries and the city’s cultural elite,” said Bernhard Wimmer, managing director of Rosewood Hotel Georgia. “Prohibition will play on that history and provide a completely new and engaging nightlife experience in the city of Vancouver.”

Created by the acclaimed Munge Leung, the Toronto-based design firm which also spearheaded the dazzling renovation of Rosewood Hotel Georgia in 2011, Prohibition’s interior is reminiscent of the covert cocktail bars and pulsing jazz speakeasies of the 1920’s, but on a grand scale. After entering through an understated and unassuming door, guests descend into the space via a lavish staircase adorned with lush black drapery, rich jewel tones and vintage finishes. Inside the space, an ornate ceiling clad in Macassar Ebony plays against the stunning black stone bar, a custom-designed glass-and-metal chandelier and richly upholstered bar stools. Two raised sections and three intimate alcoves separated by specially-created metal screens are ideal for intimate gatherings and small groups.

The innovative cocktail program for Prohibition has been designed by award-winning bartender Brad Stanton, who drew inspiration from the indulgence and mystique surrounding the prohibition era. Custom cocktail creations that incorporate house-made bitters will challenge convention, while vintage cocktails will honor the roots of the bartending craft.  Menu highlights include seasonal and daily punches, traditional absinthe service and cocktail creations organized by ‘mood’. The expansive menu will also boast an
