Raphael Mazzucco‘s family waited patiently in Studio 538′s private lounge with sealed lips. Prior to the world famous photographer’s arrival to his and wife Lisa Marie’s new Lancome line launch party hosted by LuvnGrace, I dug for some dirt – or at least a funny story. The Mazzucco’s were friendly and chatty, but supplied zero ammunition for my pending FMA interview with the guest of honor.
Fortunately, Malcolm Parry had sent me this shot (left), taken after Raphael had been forced to drive 20+ hours to San Diego for a photo shoot after immigration had prevented him from entering the country due to his mane of long hair. It provided a good laugh at the top of our chat.
In a grey leather, floor-length trench with long, wild hair, Raphael smoked and drank white wine during our interview. Italy felt near. His favorite Vancouver restaurant didn’t surprise me: Anton’s Pasta Bar on Hastings Street.
Speaking of Italy, I still had pizza on my breath. Andy (producer), Jon (cameraman), and I had stopped off at Numero Uno Pizza for a slice. The hole-in-the-wall is a Granville Street’s late night hotspots. Its vibe is comparable to its neighboring clubs: simply add fierce fluorescent lighting and nauseatingly delicious wafting smells, emanating from this:
Turkish beef and blue cheese pizza with a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside sesame crust. Heaven. It must be for me what it was like shooting Marisa Miller wearing only an iPod for Raphael…or perhaps his five back-to-back Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover images?

When it comes to pizza, I trust the Turks. As for sexy photos, Raph’s the man.
Skip the cold tea and the Fritz for a slice or two of Numero Uno – named suitably so.
