Two Bachelor seasons ago, thanks to a jam-packed Twitter stream of colorful, juicy, and (best of all) witty tweets, @erincg grabbed my attention and held it.
Since then, Erin Gerlach, aka my #TwitterSoulmate (a nickname we’ve each donned due to our uncanny number of similarities), has started a Vancouver lifestyle blog, which I click to daily. She offers tips on how to beat the ‘blahs’, how to be a good guest, what to cook for Sunday dinner, and lots more. This modern, stylish Martha Stewart is an unsung Twitter gem. Trust me on this one, ladies: follow @erincg. You won’t be disappointed.
Now, let’s get to know Erin a little better…
Q: Which is your favorite restaurant?
A: Must be Chambar. I love every dish I’ve tried there (the mussels and the lamb are legendary!) , the vibe is amazing and it holds so many great memories. My day-in-day-out fave spot is Akira Sushi on Denman St. If you do one thing in life, you must try the Tuna Tataki.
Q: Name the food you would most often describe as, ‘to die for’.
A: That’s tough… it’s usually a combo of salty, sweet and different textures: Sweet Georgia Browns from Purdy’s (see left). And I am also a complete sucker for anything with truffle in it!
Q: What is your trashy indulgence? (i.e. that late night 7/11 or drive-thru treat)
A: Poutine by a mile. Does it get better than fries covered in cheese and gravy with gobs of ketchup?… especially enjoyed at 2am. A fave spot is La Belle Patate on Davie St.
Q: Is there a food you refuse to eat because you were sick after eating it?
Q: What is the sexiest food?
A: So many foods are ‘sexy’ because food is such a pleasure! The first thing that comes to mind is a good quality milk chocolate like one from Thomas Haas. It’s so luxurious, and decadent.
Q: What is your favorite dessert in Vancouver?
A: Tiramisu is my favourite dessert and it’s hard to find a good one! The best in the city is at Epicurean Cafe in Kits. They are an Italian family owned cafe and “Nonna” makes it. I have always wanted a Nonna so I could eat divine Italian food all day long.
A: Definitely the Spaghetti with Spicy Kobe Meatballs (see right) and truffle cream sauce from Italian Kitchen. They do a smaller version for lunch, but I like to order the dinner version and bring it home for dinner, too…don’t judge.
