Where to Eat in Seattle

If there’s an opportunity to get to Seattle for a long weekend or even just one day…I’ll take it. Just two and a half hours from Vancouver, the Pacific Northwest’s Emerald City is bursting with creative dining options — and among them are many worthy plant-based options. And coffee! Seattleites are notorious espresso guzzlers. It’s not a surprise they’ve got a dangerous amount of great options at their fingertips.

This list is by no means comprehensive. When I’m lucky enough to make it down for a visit, I make a point of trying as many new spots as possible with the hope of finding gems to recommend. Here they are. If you have a reco (with plant-based options), feel free to share with me on Twitter (@erinireland) or email (erin@itstodiefor.ca).

No Bones Beach Club

To put it simply, this is "the dream restaurant" for plant-based eaters craving rich, indulgent, 100% vegan fare. Founded by three animal-loving ladies, who started out in a food truck (which was named #1 Food Truck by Seattle Weekly in 2015), No Bones tiki bar offers tropical cocktails (and mocktails) like Coconut Mojitos and dishes like Cauliflower Wings, Smoked Poblano Queso Nachos and Beer-Battered Avocado tacos. The vibe here is chill, a deejay spins tracks in the evenings and the sidewalk patio seats about 14. Get here! Neighbourhood: Ballard.

Best Coffee in Seattle

Elm Coffee Roasters

103-240 2nd Ave | 206-445-7808 $$ | Coffee House

@elmroasters | Visit website

If there's one quick pit stop you make in Seattle, let it be this. Elm not only roasts their beans on-site, they make their own house-made hazelnut mylk. The result is one of the tastiest lattes I've ever enjoyed. Served in a beautiful, plywood countered, brick coffee house (located in Pioneer Square downtown), the experience simply can't be beat.

Storyville

2128 Queen Anne Ave N | 206-780-5777 $$ | Coffee House

@storyville | Visit website

With four sleek Seattle locations, including a roasting studio on Bainbridge Island, Storyville feels like a chain, but their house-made cashew coconut mylk make it worth a visit (Califia almond milk is a second non-dairy option). Also commendable is this e-commerce-focused roaster's bigger purpose, to end human trafficking, which they support through donations.

Best Brunch in Seattle

Weekends are made for brunching. That motto is held as true in Seattle as it is here in Vancouver -- maybe even moreso. Dedicated brunchers line up for hours to eat at the city's most popular spots. We love the trendy spots, too, but a chill vibe, cool decor and quality food (with a healthy selection of plant-based options) is what we value above all else.
