The Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards have come and gone for yet another year, and there are lots of new winners to tell you about.
This year’s big favourite was none other than tiny one-room Italian eatery, Ask For Luigi, who swept the awards with gold medal honours in four categories: best new restaurant, best casual, best casual italian and restaurant of the year.
Best upscale restaurant went to Hawksworth for the fourth year in a row. They were pitted against Cioppino’s, Blue Water, La Quercia and The Pear Tree.
The food truck category was a competitive one, with Yolk’s, Soho Road, Tacofino, Vij’s Railway and Le Tigre as nominees, but Tacofino’s delicious burrito-wielding ways won them gold.
Best seafood went to new Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar in the Sutton Place Hotel, and The Green Award went to Ned Bell of Yew Restaurant who’s been working hard to raise awareness for sustainable seafood in Canada.
