Fraser Street’s got a brand new bakery cafe in Batard Boulangerie and Cafe Moderne, a collaboration from industry veterans Chris Brown of Rise Artisan Bakery and Bruno and Sally Born of Finest at Sea.
Located next to Graze Vegetarian and Earnest Ice Cream, the 100 year old building has been renovated with a casual French feel. Half the space is dedicated to cafe seating and the other side is a bakery with a small retail section.
Fresh bread emerges from their ovens throughout the day. You can buy loaves to go, of course, or order thick toasted slices with butter, nut butter or jam. Fresh baked pastries are another option. Batard offers lemon tarts, Kouign Amann and lots more.
Their coffee of choice is Umbria from Seattle and if you’re low on olive oil, spices, local canned fruit, or other basics this is a perfect spot to stock up on quality items.
