Okanagan Grocery is the source of what very well might be the Okanagan’s best bread.
Owner and head baker Monika Walker, a Western Living “Top 40 Foodie Under 40”, is a self-proclaimed bread geek. She and her small team are constantly experimenting with recipes and processes to perfect their product and to create new loaf types. Their creations include a Callebaut Chocolate loaf, a peanut butter & jelly loaf and an organic apple raisin sourdough. Brioche, Bavarian pretzels and rosemary focaccia are a few of their more traditional offerings.
Every week, 15 new, hand-shaped varieties of breads grace the shelves of their industrial chic warehouse space. As far as ingredients go, Monika uses organic unbleached white flour and a natural starter. Never will you find preservatives, additives or mixes at Okanagan Grocer. You won’t even find bread tins as every loaf is shaped by hand the old fashioned way.
Also sold in-house are jams made by Monika’s husband, local cheeses, espresso from Bean Scene and more quality, locally made products.
