Travel + Leisure magazine has named the Wickaninnish Inn the #1 readers’ choice for a resort hotel in British Columbia and #2 resort hotel in Canada, according to the 18th annual World’s Best Awards announced today.
The Wickaninnish Inn placed 29th on the Best Hotels of the World top 100 list.
The Wickaninnish Inn is the only property in Canada to be noted as a Travel + Leisure Hall of Fame award winner. A property must appear on the Travel + Leisure World’s Best list for 10 consecutive years to be considered a hall of fame member.
“We are both humbled and inspired by this latest recognition. To once again be ranked among the world’s best, and to have made the list for over 10 years in a row, is a measure of consistent quality that is a great testament to the dedicated team at the Wickaninnish Inn. Knowing the knowledgeable readers of Travel + Leisure recognize our efforts makes this award very meaningful to our organization.” says Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director of the Wickaninnish Inn.
This latest recognition from T+L is made even more significant because the World’s Best Awards rely on guest experiences. Every year, Travel + Leisure’s savvy readers vote on their favourite hotels, resorts, spas, airlines, cruise lines and other businesses to create a snapshot of the best travel experiences around the globe. This year’s full results will be published in the August 2013 issue of the magazine, as well as onwww.travelandleisure.com
McDiarmid goes on to say, “As always we are thrilled to share this recognition with our fellow Relais & Chateaux colleagues. We are especially pleased for the Post Hotel and Spa in Lake Louise, ranked the #1 resort in Canada this year, Auberge Saint Antoine, ranked the #3 city hotel in Canada and our B.C. neighbour, the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa in Vancouver, which ranked as the #5 city hotel in Canada.”
This is not the first time the Wickaninnish Inn has ranked favorably in the annual T+L World’s Best Awards. For years, the Inn was rated highly in the U.S./Canada division, and in 2011 and 2012 topped the list in Canada. This Relais & Chateaux property has also scooped up a number of other reader’s choice awards from publications including Condé Nast Traveller Magazine, which in 2012 ranked the Inn #7 in their Readers Travel Awards for the Americas (North and South America and the Caribbean), Conde Nast Traveler Magazine named the Inn to its Platinum Circle in for making the publication’s Gold List over five years in a row, as well as Condé Nast Johansen’s (2013 Most Excellent Spa Hotel in North America).
Still, the team at the Inn is unwilling to rest on its laurels and is continually making improvements to enhance the experience of all guests. Some of the most recent updates at the Inn include the refurbishment of all 45 of the original Pointe Building guestrooms, a revitalization of the Inn’s public areas, a significant improvement in the Inn’s wireless technology and the creation of a magical “sea cave” in the Ancient Cedars Spa.
About Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards: A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure, in association with ROI Research Inc., was made available to Travel + Leisure readers. Readers were invited to participate through Travel + Leisure magazine and online at TravelandLeisure.com. To protect the integrity of the data, after March 31, 2013, respondents were screened by Travel + Leisure and responses from any identified travel-industry professionals who completed the survey were eliminated from the final tally. A minimum number of responses are necessary for a candidate to be eligible for inclusion in the World’s Best Awards listings. For more information, visit www.travelandleisure.com/
