Let’s face it: a first date can make or break a relationship.
My first date with my partner Darren took place at an NBA exhibition game. It began with tea and ended with a walk in the rain. It was a full-of-fun, completely non-generic date that helped set a theme for our budding relationship. Of all the activities you plan in your lifetime, first dates might be the most important!
A new Vancouver-based dating app called SuperDate is dedicated to planning adventurous, creative and unique dates while matching users who enjoy similar types of experiences.
Some of their past dates have included
- Ice-skating atop Grouse Mountain followed by dinner and a helicopter tour over the North Shore
- A day of pampering at the Scandinave Spa Whistler
- A limo-ride to dinner followed by a Gastown wine-tasting tour
- A glacier landing in Whistler with Blackcomb Aviation Tours followed by dinner in Whistler Village
SuperDate and I have teamed up to create my dream SuperDate, which includes three parts, because a first date should be a thrilling escapade!
My Dream SuperDate Itinerary
Chase The Sunset – Meet in the Mt. Seymour parking lot and head out for a hike or snowshoe to the Dog Mountain look-out point. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the peak, so check your weather app and make sure you’re set to reach the viewpoint by sunset. Cloudy days can be magical, too, though.
Ethnic Eats – By now, you’re starving. Since unique cultural experiences can be a bonding experience (and invoke interesting conversational), you must head out for an ethnic meal. Try Amay’s House on Victoria Drive for some of the most flavourful food in the entire city — the Myanmar Tea Leaf Salad and the Spicy Button Mushroom Curry are must-orders.
Micro-Brewery Night Cap – If things are going well, take a cab to 33 Acres for a pint of their delicious micro-brew. A beer always loosens the tongue and this brewery’s casual-cool vibe with communal seating will instantly put both of you at ease.
SuperDate believes we shouldn’t need an excuse (such as Valentine’s Day) to go on special date, which is why they’re giving away four dream dates this month which can be used any day except for Valentine’s Day! You can enter to win HERE.
SuperDate is currently available as a web app, and is set to launch in the app store the week of Valentine’s Day (how timely!). You can expect four date categories: active, dining, cultural and casual. And since Vancouver is such a beautiful city with the ocean, big city and mountains all at our fingertips – the options will be endless.
